The Vandalia wrestling team came up just short against Civic Memorial last Wednesday in the final tuneup before the St. Thomas More New Year’s Challenge.
Vandalia recorded two pins and had four forfeit victories, but Civic Memorial took all of the remaining matches to win, 37-36.
Senior Zach Jackson pinned his opponent in 1:51 at 160 pounds, and sophomore Jake Stewart picked up his team-leading eighth win by pinning his opponent in 3:50 at 170 pounds.
Jackson is tied with sophomore Dalton Blankenship for the team lead with five pins.
Forfeit winners for the Vandals (3-3) were Blake Cripe (182), Nathan Lutz (195), Sean Newcomb (220) and Dylan Sapp (285).
