Vandal golfers win second straight event

VANDALIA – The Vandal golfers won their second straight match last Thursday, defeating both Ramsey and Altamont at Vandalia Country Club.

Junior Zach Schaal and Richie Well paced the Vandals (5-3-1) by shooting 42s, junior Jake Bowen added a 43 and senior Jake Shulman shot a 45 to give Vandalia a team score of 172 and the win by five strokes.

Ramsey finished second with a 177. Included in the Rams’ total was a 42 by Brady Reiss, a 44 by Carter Hunt, a 45 by Michael Lay and a 46 by Marckus Coss.

Altamont finished third, with a 188. Included was a round of 40 by Adam Mayhaus, which was first among individuals.

Bowen and Well each had one birdie during the match, and Well continued showing consistency with his fourth finish of either 41 or 42 in four events this year.

Freshman Levi Cox shot a career-low 47 in his third event at the varsity level.

Also golfing for the Vandals were: Alec Schroeder (57), Alex Cogagne (64) and Riley Herron (66).
