Two killed in wreck early Sunday

Both drivers sustained fatal injuries in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. Route 51 south of Vandalia early Sunday morning.

According to Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen, Robert Norris, 74, of Vernon, was traveling south on Route 51 when a northbound vehicle driven by 22-year-old Joshua Jezek of Sandoval crossed the center line, hitting the truck driven by Norris head-on.

The vehicle driven by Jezek, who was identified on Monday afternoon, burst into flames.

Norris and Jezek were pronounced dead at the scene by Bowen at 4:06 a.m.
