Three track records set at Greenville

The Vandalia boys track team set three school records on the way to a narrow second-place finish in a five-team meet at Greenville last Thursday.

The Vandals scored 94 1/2 points, only three points behind Breese Mater Dei, which won the meet with 97 1/2. Greenville finished third with 85 points, followed by Metro East Lutheran with 73 and Christ Our Rock Lutheran with one point.

Drew Bell broke his own 3200-meter record, running a 10:01 – cutting eight seconds off his previous record of 10:09.92.

The sprint relay team Cody McGee, Mitch Whightsil, Michael Galletto and Angel Osorio broke two school records – one in the 4x100-meter relay and one in the 4x200-meter relay. Their time in the 4x100 was 47.9, beating the former record of 48.2. In the 4x200, they ran 1:39.1, just beating the old record of 1:39.2.

Finishing first for the Vandals were: Will Cowger in the shot put, with 41 feet, 11 ½ inches; Drew Stewart in the discus, with 114 feet, 7 inches; Bell in the 3,200-meter run in 10:01; the 4x200-meter relay squad of McGee, Whightsil, Galletto and Osorio in 1:39.1; Andy Koonce in the 400-meter dash in 54.1 and the 4x400-meter relay team of Quinn Phillips, Clint Devall, Drew Bell and Koonce in 3:49.5.

Earning seconds were: Stewart in the shot put, with 40 feet, 8 inches; Michael Galletto in the discus, with 108 feet, 10 inches; Daniel Bell in the 800-meter run in 2:13.5; Quenten Austin in the 300-meter hurdles in :45.0; and Mitch Whightsil in the 200-meter dash in :24.8.

Placing third were: Angel Osorio in the high jump with 6 feet, 2 inches; the 4x800-meter relay team of Stewart, Matt Grove, Josh Lawson and Bryce Worker in 9:56.3; the 4x100-meter relay team of McGee, Whightsil, Galletto and Osorio in :47.9; Quenten Austin in the 110-meter high hurdles in 17.8; and Blake Mills in the 300-meter low hurdles in :48.7.

Placing fourth were: Austin in the high jump with 5 feet, 6 inches and Will Cowger in the discus with 105 feet, 7 inches.

Placing fifth were: Daniel Bell in the high jump with 5 feet, 4 inches; Nick Filer in the triple jump with 35 feet; and Matt Hubbart in the 1,600-meter run in 5:26.6.
