Three IKWF wrestlers advance to state event

Three Vandalia Jr. Club wrestlers have advanced to the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation state tournament.

Jarek Wehrle, Tanner Swain and Luke Francis each placed third at Saturday’s Highland Sectional to earn their spot at this weekend’s state championships.

The event will be held at BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford on Friday and Saturday.

All three will be wrestling in the novice division, with Wehrle going at 62 pounds, Swain at 89 pounds and Francis at 177 pounds.

Others participating at the sectional were: Kyle Miller (intermediate-62), Dawson McKinney (intermediate), Dustin Lott (novice-95), Garret Stewart (novice-130), Jarrett Paslay (senior-89), Trevor Philpot (senior-101) and Shane White (senior-166).

Miller placed third, but is too young to participate in the IKWF state championships.

He will instead participate in the Midget State Championships on March 16-17 in Danville.

Also participating at that event will be Vandalia resident Anthony Enlow, who placed first at the Highland Sectional.
