ST. ELMO — Fischer Tharp was on a mission Wednesday night at the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament.

Scoring 32 points, he led No. 6 South Central to a 52-48 upset win against third-seeded Cowden-Herrick in the 53rd annual event and secured his team a spot in the championship semifinals on Friday night at 7:45 p.m.

There, the Cougars will meet No. 2 Altamont, which beat seventh-seeded Ramsey, 61-31, on Wednesday.

Tharp's output was just nine points short of the tournament record of 41, and marks the second time this season that he has scored better than 30 points. He is averaging 23.2 points per game this season.

Ramsey led 15-14 in the second quarter, but struggled to score the rest of the game. Tylor Knisley led the team in scoring, with 11 points.

The Rams will face Cowden-Herrick on Friday at 6:15 p.m.
