Local authorities are continuing to investigate the temporary disappearance of a young child in Vera on Sunday evening.
Fayette County Sheriff Aaron Lay said his department received a report at about 10:30 p.m. of a 4-year-old child missing from her bed.
Lay said other area agencies were contacted, and a search of the home and nearby area was conducted, with one Fayette County deputy estimating that as many as 60 people participated in the search for the young girl.
Those responding to the incident included the Vandalia police and fire departments, and Illinois State Police, which provided an airplane for the search.
An ARCH medical helicopter and an Illinois Department of Transportation helicopter equipped with an infrared camera, as well as a number of volunteers, also participated in the search, Lay said.
“There was no shortage of an effort,” Lay said.
The sheriff said that less than three hours after the child was reported missing, she was discovered in the home by family members.
