A 19-year-old Vandalia man is scheduled to appear in Fayette Circuit Court on Nov. 3 after authorities say he repeatedly stabbed another teen at a party near the Kaskaskia River.
Bo T. Blackwell, 605 N. Rock Island, was arrested Oct. 16 and charged with aggravated battery after witnesses told officials he stabbed Jerry Alsbury, 18, with a 3 ¾ - inch knife in the left side of his abdomen. Alsbury also suffered lacerations on his left arm, left leg and buttocks, according to a preliminary report filed with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies said they’re still investigating statements from more than a dozen witnesses who attended the party on a levee, less than eight miles northeast of Vandalia. It’s believed a fight erupted there between several party-goers about 3:25 a.m., according to reports filed with deputies.
It’s further believed that several people under the legal drinking limit were consuming alcohol at the party. No others were charged, according to arrest records.
After spending less than seven days in the Fayette County jail and posting a $25,000 bond, arrest records show Blackwell was court-ordered to have no contact with Alsbury.
Blackwell is banned from bars and must abstain from alcohol. He will be subjected to random drug testing, arrest records show.
Deputies declined to comment further on the case until a full report has been processed.
