A male teen was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, several hours after two individuals were found dead at a Loogootee residence.
Fayette County Stephen Friedel said in a press release issued shortly before noon on Wednesday that the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was called at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday to investigate a reported break-in at a Loogootee residence.
A sheriff’s deputy then responded to a second Loogootee residence “and identified an apparent crime scene."
At that second residence, Friedel said, two individuals were found dead. “It appeared and is presumed that the cause of death…is gunshot wounds,” his release states.
Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen was dispatched to the scene shortly after 4 a.m.
Friedel said that a county deputy had taken a 15-year-old male from Farina into custody.
The office of Fayette County Sheriff Aaron Lay and the Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate what is being classified as a double murder.
The Farina Police Department also responded to the scene.
Friedel said that preliminary results of the investigation have been submitted to his office.
“It is anticipated that multiple felony charges, including first-degree murder, will be filed with the Fayette County Circuit Clerk, and the suspect will appear in court on Thursday,” the press release stated.
The names of the two individuals who were murdered were being withheld pending the notification of family members.
