Swofford wins title on SIGA golf tour

Blake Swofford won the Southern Illinois Golf Association’s points championship and the tour’s Player’s Championship this summer.

The Vandalia High School junior easily won the points title, finishing with 177 points in the 16-18-year-old boys division. The second-place finisher had just 79.5.

At the SIGA Vogler Ford-Mazda Player’s Championship, Swofford had his best performance of the summer, winning by three strokes and shooting a 1-under-par 71 at Rend Lake.

That win was Swofford’s seventh in 13 summer tournaments.

Swofford’s summer results follow:
•June 6 – Shoots a 6-over, 77, at Franklin County to finish second.
•June 7 – Shoots an 8-over, 78, at Red Hawk to finish first.
•June 17 – Shoots a 3-over, 75, at McLeansboro to finish first.
•June 27 – Shoots a 9-over, 79, at Crab Orchard to finish sixth.
•June 29 – Shoots a 3-over, 75, at Salem to finish second.
•June 30 – Shoots a 1-over, 72, at Gambit to finish first.
•July 11 – Shoots a 1-over, 72, at Jackson to finish first.
•July 20 – Shoots a 5-over, 76, at Kokopelli to finish fifth.
•July 22 – Shoots a 2-over, 74, at Shawnee Hills to finish first.
•July 28 – Shoots a 4-over, 75, at Green Hills to finish fifth.
•Aug. 4 – Shoots a 1-over, 71, at Wayne County to finish first.
•Aug. 5 – Shoots a 1-over, 73, at Benton to finish fourth.
•Aug. 8 – Shoots a 1-under, 71, at Rend Lake to finish first.
