Suite Furnishings

After attending flea markets for years to find unique furniture and other household items, John and Tracey Robison of Altamont decided they wanted to have a place to display the treasures they’d collected.
And to give others the chance to buy them.

That was the beginning of downtown Vandalia’s newest store – Suite Furnishings. Located at 514 W. Gallatin St., the store features refurbished furniture, antiques, collectables, and a variety of vintage dishes and kitchen items (canister sets, old tables and chairs, and Pyrex dishes).
“We like to make unique things nice again,” Tracey said. “Everything is cleaned and repaired, if necessary, before we put it out for sale.
“We also enjoy repurposing items – we’ve made a barn door into a table and car seat into a bench. Old things don’t need to be trashed just because they’re old.”
Though they live in Altamont, they liked what has been done to bring downtown Vandalia back to life, and decided to open their store here on Aug. 1.
“Downtown Vandalia has really changed, and we like what has been done there,” Tracey said.
The Robisons' daughter, Savannah, will be staffing the store most of the time. It will be open 3-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
To contact the store, call 367-3114 or 367-3112, or check out their page on Facebook (under Suite Furnishings). The Facebook page includes pictures of many of the items for sale in the store.
