Students, athletes do amazing things

This time of year always renews our confidence in the future as we see our young people prepare to make their way into the world.
As we cover their completion of high school or college, we have the privilege of hearing their accolades listed at award assemblies or graduation ceremonies.
And this is the time of year when the cream rises to the top in athletic competition. Congratulations to state junior high track champ Curtis Gordon and state track placer Quenten Austin, both of Vandalia. And to the surprising Mulberry Grove softball team and the always-solid South Central baseball team, which both advanced to the sectional finals.
In a variety of fields, we have among us a number of individuals who can compete with the best of the best.
And whether their expertise is on the athletic field or in the classroom – or, even better, both – it is encouraging to see them prepare to spread their wings and fly.
Whether they're destined for college, the military or the workplace, those young people represent the quality training and development that is going on at our schools.
Congratulations, graduates! We're proud of your efforts so far. And we're waiting anxiously to see what great things  you will accomplish in the future.
