While not yet to play at home, the St. Elmo High School boys basketball team will begin its season on Friday, traveling to Neoga for a 6:15 p.m. tipoff.

The Eagles will then travel to Cowden-Herrick on Tuesday.

Coach Greg Feezel said his team must “grow up in a hurry” to be successful, but it does return three starters from last season that give the Eagles a young, but experienced, core.

Sophomore Connor Beasley and juniors Ben Sperry and Blaine Scholes combined to average 20.3 points and 14.8 rebounds per game last season.

Neoga and Cowden-Herrick played each other in the season-opener for each team on Tuesday, with Neoga prevailing, 81-67.

St. Elmo will play its first games at home during the St. Elmo Holiday Tournament from Dec. 14-18.
