Methodist Father’s Day
First United Methodist Church morning worship on Sunday 17 honored fathers. Shannon Moss presented church gifts to fathers Max Atwood, Dave Koontz and Dave Maxey, who have done much to help the church. Another church member, who is not a father but a church worker, Holly Huffer, was also presented a gift. All fathers received candy as they went out the doors.
After the prelude by Kathy Spitler and lighting of the Holy Spirit candles, board Chairman Dave Maxey called attention to the clavinova next to the piano in the overflow room.
It was donated by Luella Rubin in memory of her deceased parents, Ray and Maude Buzzard.
Luella was raised in St. Elmo, and was baptized and taken into the Methodist Church in April 1943. When she married Leonard Rubin, she became a Lutheran and lived in St. Peter.
Now a widow with some health problems, she has moved into an apartment at the Altamont Lutheran Care. She wanted to donate the clavinova to her first home church instead of selling it. The church gratefully accepted it.
Birthdays and anniversaries were recognized before the hymn.
Pastor Dan Laack delivered the message.
The church helps with the Thursday lunch program.
