A Correction

Friendship Manor Mother’s Tea
In observance of National Nursing Home Week, Friendship Manor Nursing Home had a tea for mothers the afternoon of May 13, and there were several visitors.
Activity Director Jo Hutson made corsages that she pinned on each woman present. A table decorated with huge balloons held the refreshments of chicken salad croissant sandwiches, potato chips, cookies, tiny cupcakes and lime punch.
Entertainment included a skit, with Minnie Pearl played by Bonnie Haslett, a resident at the home, and Ella Mae played by Gayla Wright, an employee at the home. The humorous skit was on Minnie Pearl (dressed as she should be, with a hat that included the price tag hanging from it) trying to get her boyfriend to marry her.
Mary Ann Price of Farina sang a solo.

The only May meeting for the Lions Club was held the evening of May 13 at Mary Ann’s Restaurant, with President Dave Maxey leading in the pledge of allegiance and Pee Wee Denton giving the meal blessing.
John Crawford was recognized as being a 41-year member in May.
Guest speaker was Lisa Casterline, the mobility manager of Central Illinois Transit Fayette County. She described how her company is helping to provide economical transportation throughout Fayette County and neighboring counties.
Mark Lash was appointed chairman of the Lions Club election committee and will be assisted by Bob Wells and Pee Wee Denton. The committee will present their selection of officers at the June 10 meeting. The newly elected officers will be installed by Lloyd Stanley at the installation banquet at Mary Ann’s Restaurant on June 24 at 6 p.m.
Club members were reminded to be at Pinnacle Foods by 9 a.m. on May 18 to help at the Food Bank distribution.

Avena Township Park Board
Because of several illnesses, the Avena Township Park Board was not able to meet May 14. Board Trustee Daryl Calvert had planned to make this announcement to the board – ten copies of a newly published book will be sold at Daryl’s Dine-In for $10 each, and the money will be donated to the Save the Pool fund.
The book has been written by Judy Diller, a former Effingham woman who is married to a former St. Elmo resident, Doug Diller. They live in Daphne, Ala.

Smith, second vice; Clement Lilly, service officer; Richard Lowe, treasurer; Dave Cox, chaplain; Ernie Myers, adjutant; and Doyle Beck, sergeant-at-arms and historian. After a short business meeting, conducted by Delva Krost, Rhodes read “The Children’s Bible in a Nutshell,” which was supposed to have been written by a child who was asked to write a report on the entire Bible.
