Jr. Vandal basketball camp is June 3-7
The Jr. Vandal boys basketball camp will be June 3-7.
Boys will be divided into groups of grades K-3 and 4-7.
Registration cost for K-3 is $25, and that camp will run from 8:30-9:45 a.m. each day.
Registration cost for 4-7 is $35, and that camp will run from 10-11:45 a.m. each day.
The camp will teach the fundamentals of basketball, including shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and man-to-man defense. Individual offensive moves and team play will also be instructed.

Schedule set for softball open fields
There will be four open fields and one two-day clinic this summer at the Vandalia High School softball field.
All of those dates are free of charge, with no registration, and open to any player ages 6-18.
The clinic will be held on May 30-31 from 12-3 p.m. each day, and high school coaches Brian Buscher and Jeremy Curll will help players of all skill levels to improve their skills and technique.
Hitting, pitching and fielding will be emphasized.
Open fields will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. on July 2, 9, 11 and 16.
At open fields, softball drills in throwing, pitching, hitting, base running and fielding will be taught, and simulated games will be held.

Field of Dreams camp is returning
For the second straight year, the Vandalia Field of Dreams committee will be hosting a baseball camp.
The camp will be held from June 24-28 in three-hour sessions from 9 a.m.-noon at Vandalia Mutual Field, with players ages 9-18 eligible to register.
Registration cost is $25 per player, and must be paid before a camper will be allowed to participate.
All campers will receive a hat.
Registration forms are available at the Family YMCA of Fayette County, or on the committee's Facebook page.
Forms will also be available at the field on the first morning of the camp.
Registration forms and payments can mailed to P.O. Box 242, Vandalia, Ill. 62471, turned in at the YMCA or brought the first day of the camp.
The camp will be directed by Vandalia High School graduate Kyle Hawkins, and others assisting will include players that have experience at many levels of baseball.
Chute Camp deadline is May 28
The Chute Offensive Skills Basketball Academy will take place at Vandalia Community High School from June 19-20.
The camp will focus on offensive player development, including shooting techniques, footwork and offensive moves.
The registration cost for the academy is $60, and the deadline to register is May 28.

All participants will receive a T-shirt.
The camp will be held in two sessions.
Boys and girls in grades 9-12 will participate from 8:30-11:30 a.m. each day, and boys and girls in grades 4-8 will participate from 12:30-3:30 p.m. each day.
