Bone has best finish for BJHS at state

A 10th-place finish in the seventh-grade 400-meter dash was the highest any Brownstown Junior High track member finished at the Illinois Elementary Association Class A state meet in Peoria this past weekend.

Bone finished that race in 1:05.62, and participated in three other events.

In the 100-meter dash, she finished 38th, with a time of 0:14.69, and in the high jump, she placed 24th, with a jump of 4 feet, 2 inches.

She was also part of the eighth-grade 4X100-meter relay team, along with Emily Frailey, Tabitha Dolan and Kyrstyn Fitch, which finished 38th, with a time of 1:01.36)

Also participating for Brownstown were eighth-grader Curt Frailey, who placed 23rd in the 200-meter dash (0:26.9), and seventh-grade Elizabeth Biggs, who placed 22nd in the discus (69 feet).

Beasley ties St. Elmo school record

Sophomore Connor Beasley tied St. Elmo High School's record for wins in a season, when he notched his eighth victory on  Friday during the Eagles' 14-2 win against Mulberry Grove.

Beasley tied the spring-season record, which was established by Logan Mahon.

Beasley pitched a complete-game, allowing just one hit on a slow roller down the third-base line by junior Jacob Rickman in the first inning. He walked just two and allowed a pair of unearned runs.

Senior Kase Stolte paced the offense, with a 3-for-4 effort, including a home run and four RBI.

Sophomore Garrett Bartels was 2-for-2, with an RBI, and freshman Levi Maxey drove in a pair of runs.

Senior Zach Heilig took the loss for the Aces, allowing eight hits and five walks but striking out five.

KC to hold summer basketball camps

The Kaskaskia College athletic department will host several basketball camps for area students this summer.  

Two co-ed basketball camps will be held from June 9-10.  The first is for students in grades K-3  and will be held from 9-11 a.m.   The second camp will be for athletes in grades 4-6 and will be held from 1-3 p.m.  

A boys’ basketball camp will be held for students in grades 7-8 from June 23-24.  The camp will be held from 1-3 p.m.

A girls’ basketball camp will be held for students in grades 7-8 from June 27-28 from 9-11 a.m.

The fee to attend each camp is $25.00 and includes a T-shirt.

The camps will be conducted by KC head basketball coaches and current athletes.

KC to hold summer baseball camps

The Kaskaskia College baseball program will hold two baseball camps this summer in June for area youth. Both camps will be held from June 16-17.  

The first camp will be held for students in grades 1-5 and will be held from 9-11 a.m.  The second camp will be held for students in grades 6-8 from 12-2 p.m.  

Cost for each camp is $25.00 and includes a T-shirt.  

All camps will be instructed by Kaskaskia College's baseball coach Mitch Koester, assistant coach Marcus Wilson and current KC athletes.

All players should meet at the KC Baseball Field on the first day with a baseball glove.

KC to hold summer softball camps

The Kaskaskia College softball program will host two softball camps in June, with both camps being held from June 16-17.

The first camp is for students in grades 1-5 and will be held from 9-11 a.m.  The second camp is for students in grades 6-8 and will be held from 12-1:30 p.m.  

The cost to attend each session is $25.00 and includes a T-shirt.  

The camps will be instructed by KC softball coach Torey Crowell, along with KC players.  

The camp will give individual instruction on the fundamentals of softball, including hitting, fielding and throwing. 

All campers should meet at the softball field and bring a glove.

KC to hold summer cross country camp

The Kaskaskia College athletic department will hold a co-ed cross country camp at the KC main campus from June 6-9.  

The camp will be held from 5:45-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and is for students in grades 4-12.  

The cost to attend is $25.00 and all campers will receive a T-shirt.  

The camp will include the principles of distance running, how to prepare for race day both mentally and physically, and the proper diet for distance runners.  Also included will be training techniques and on-site training.  The last day will include a time trial race.

The camp will be instructed by Kaskaskia College's cross country coach Mike Hargis.  All runners should meet in the gym the first day of the camp.
