Cripe places fifth at state

Jr. Club wrestler Blake Cripe finished fifth at the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation state tournament on Saturday.

Cripe advanced to the championship quarterfinals, and consolation semifinals before battling in the fifth-place match.

Bobby Bradley and Dalton Blankenship also participated in the state meet for the Vandals.

Six Jr. Club wrestlers will take part in the midget state tournament in Danville this weekend.

Ruffner places third; St. Elmo finds success at EIU Indoor meet

Vandalia sophomore Sierah Ruffner placed in a tie for third in the high jump at the Charleston Indoor meet on Saturday.

With her 5-foot leap, Ruffner qualified for the Illinois Prep Top Times Indoor Classic in Bloomington next Friday.

St. Elmo's track team also participated at the 70-team event, and coach Travis Redden said he was impressed with his squad's finishes.

In the shot put, senior Abby Hill placed 18th with a throw of 28 feet, 10 1/2 inches, and freshman Molly Hill finished 20th with a throw of 28 feet, eight inches.

Krissy Connell had a personal best in the triple jump with a leap of 30 feet, 3 1/2 inches.
