Vandal 8th-graders win tournament

For the first time on Saturday, the Vandalia Junior High eighth-grade volleyball team won the Edwardsville Tournament.

In the first game, the Lady Vandals beat St. Norberts, 25-14, 25-16. Jessica Sullens had 12 points and five service aces, and Kadi Metzger had five points and four service aces.

In the second game, the Lady Vandals beat Edwardsville Liberty, 25-17, 19-25, 15-13. Jori Wagner had nine points, and Ali Sasse had eight points and four service aces.

In the third game, the Lady Vandals beat Southwestern, 23-25, 25-12. 15-5. Sullens had 25 points, and Madison Click had seven points and two service aces.

In the championship game, the Lady Vandals defeated Lovejoy, 18-25, 25-18, 25-20. Metzger had 12 kills and three service aces; Mercedes Reynolds had seven points, four kills and one service ace; and Sullens had 16 points and four kills.

Lady Bombers win pair of games

The Brownstown High School girls basketball team won two games last week to improve to 12-10 on the season.

Last Thursday, the Lady Bombers downed Ramsey, 46-21.

Senior Kel-C Sefton had 24 points, and fellow senior Abby Hill added 17.

Last Tuesday, Brownstown defeated Sandoval, 54-32.

The Lady Bombers held the Lady Hawks to just 13 first-half points in taking a 27-13 lead.

Brownstown also outscored Sandoval in the final two periods to earn the win. Abby Hill was the top scorer with 14 points on senior night.

Brooke Maxey, Myers, Sefton and Emily Petersen were also honored.

Lady Cougars fall to Dieterich

The South Central High School girls basketball team lost to Dieterich last Thursday, 48-24.

Senior Ashley Pollard had 11 points, and senior Haley Rambo grabbed 11 rebounds.

Lady Aces JH volleyball scores

The Mulberry Grove Junior High volleyball teams started their seasons recently.

Last Thursday, the seventh-graders lost to Pocahontas, 25-9, 25-6, and the eighth-graders lost, 25-12, 25-12.

Against St. Elmo, the seventh-graders fell, 25-9, 25-5, and the eighth-graders lost 25-9, 25-17.
