South Central wins regional championship; Vandalia, St. Elmo lose

FARINA — South Central's volleyball team won its third straight regional championship on Thursday, defeating North Clay, 25-16, 25-15.

The top-seeded Lady Cougars got 14 kills from senior Kinzie Neilson, and three aces and 16 assists from Natalie Chapman.

On Tuesday, South Central (31-4) will battle Edwards County at the Dieterich Sectional at 6 p.m.

FLORA — The Vandalia volleyball team ran into state-championship contender Breese Central at the Flora Regional on Thursday, losing, 25-10, 25-13.

Coach Allison Smith said she was thankful for all the support the team had received throughout the tournament, and said that Breese Central was so good of a team, that she isn't sure the Lady Vandals could win if the teams played each other 10 times.

Junior RaeChelle Leiken had five kills, and junior Sierah Ruffner added four. In her final game, senior Haley Wollerman recorded 12 assists, two kills and one service ace.

Vandalia (25-7) ends its season with a new school record for wins.

The St. Elmo volleyball team took its regional championship game to the bitter end, losing to Altamont in three sets, 22-25, 25-18, 23-25, at the Altamont Regional.

Juniors Savannah Feezel and Katie Stites each had 12 kills for the Lady Eagles, and junior Perry Manley had 25 assists.

St. Elmo finishes the season with a 21-15 record, and the Lady Eagles return all of their starters next season.
