South Central reaches 22nd straight MTC title game

For the 22nd straight year, the South Central High School baseball team will be playing for the Midland Trail Conference championship, in what is the team's final year in the conference.

After defeating second-seeded North Clay, 11-5, on Wednesday night, the No. 3 Cougars will battle top-seeded Woodlawn for the conference crown on Friday at 7 p.m. in Kinmundy.

South Central, which will join the National Trail Conference next season, fell behind early on Wednesday, but a four-run fifth inning, and a six-run seventh inning propelled the team to a win.

Fischer Tharp and Heath Hoffmann each had three hits and an RBI during the game, and Luke Krajefska picked up the win in relief, after striking out six over 5 2/3 innings.

Woodlawn defeated Cisne, 11-0, in five innings to advance to the championship game. Earlier this season, the Cardinals defeated South Central, 13-3.
