South Central FS of Vandalia and Total Grain Marketing (TGM) of Effingham this week announced an agreement through which South Central FS will join TGM, effective Aug. 31.
TGM is a regional grain marketing venture, formed in 2006 by Effingham-Clay Service Co., Wabash Valley Service Co. and Growmark Inc. (the parent company of South Central FS).
Byron Sikma, South Central FS general manager, said that joining TGM provides farmers greater access to grain markets.
"In today's grain marketplace, the broader access to markets we have, the better able farmers are to capitalize on prices, which enhances their profitability," he said.
TGM Manager Randy Handel said that the venture strengthens the package of grain services offered to farmers in Bond and Fayette counties, and will benefit all TGM customers.
"We are excited to welcome the farmers in these counties into TGM," Handel said. "We believe we can give farmers many options in grain marketing services."
TGM has facilities in Clark, Clay, Cumberland, Edgar, Effingham, Jasper, Marion and Shelby counties. With the addition of South Central FS, TGM will originate grain from 21 counties in South Central and Eastern Illinois.
