Soroptimists again holding Vandalia Idol competition

The Vandalia Soroptimists will hold their second Vandalia Idol contest this June.
Registrations forms are now available at the local area banks and the Vandalia KC Campus. Last year, 32 participants competed for the title of Vandalia Idol. Jordan Brown of Vandalia was last year’s Idol, with Ravyn Gouch of Mulberry Grove coming in second.
The format will remain the same this year, with two nights of auditions in which the three finalists will advance to the finale on June 30.
The People’s Choice was a popular audience vote last year at the finale, so this year, the Soroptimists have brought it back with a twist. On both nights of auditions, set for June 16 and 23, the audience will vote for their favorite to advance to the finale.
Three cash prizes will be awarded at this year’s Vandalia Idol contest.
Soroptimist Internation al of Vandalia was started in 1965 and is a member of the worldwide Soroptimist organization. Their goal is to advance the status of women and girls using the motto “Live Your Dream.”
The Soroptimist annually present a Womens Oppurtunity Award to a Woman who is the head of their household, as well as a Violet Richardson Award for young women ages 14-17 who do volunteer work in their community.
They also recognize area women for their dedication in several areas of service and present a Woman of the Year award as well.
