With a win at Hillsboro on Friday, the Vandalia High School softball team will win at least a share of the South Central Conference East Division.

The Lady Vandals have a 9-3 record in conference (16-16 overall), and are tied with Greenville atop the standings. In the season series against the Lady Comets, Vandalia was 1-1, so neither team holds a tiebreaker.

On Thursday, freshman Megan Godoyo hit and inside-the-park home run and struck out nine from the pitcher's circle during a 6-3 win at Roxana.

The softball regional tournament begins on Monday in Vandalia, with a game between the Lady Vandals (4) and Carlyle (5) at 4:30 p.m.

Also on Friday, the Vandalia, St. Elmo and Patoka girls track teams will be at Robinson for their sectional meet, at 4 p.m.

Vandalia sophomore Sierah Ruffner and Patoka senior Paige Myers are candidates to advance to state in the high jump, and St. Elmo freshman Molly Hill and senior Abby Hill both could advance in discus.

Patoka also has some sprinters, who may advance to state.

The girls track state meet is in Charleston from May 19-21.
