Sisters Rita Miller and Carol Oldham have been around sewing since they were taught by their grandmother as young girls.

They've both incorporated those skills in their long careers. But recently, they decided to join forces to open a sewing shop of their own. It is located at 525 W. Gallatin St., next to Clymer TV & Appliance.
That shop is one of the newest in downtown Vandalia – an area that is bustling with activity.
"So far, it's been great," said Rita. "People have been really supportive. It's just amazing to see the amount of alterations people want to have done."
Among the jobs they'll tackle are: hemming pants, replacing zippers, shortening sleeves, patching jeans, and alterations and repairs of all types of clothing.
The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The telephone number for Rita is 780-1644 and for Carol is 339-2081.
