? The Fayette County Cancer Fund is holding a public meeting at 7 p.m. in the conference room at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.

Friday, October 12

? Bingo is held at Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
? The Vandalia Swimming Pool haunted house, "Scary Tales, will be open from 7-11 p.m. at the former Washington School on South Eighth Street. Admission is $6, with the proceeds going to the swimming pool.

Saturday, October 13

? A Community Fall Festival is being held from 3-10 p.m. at Vandalia Lake, sponsored by State Farm agent Clint Simpson, Vandalia Lions Club, Vandalia Back Pain Center and Greater Fayette County Chamber of Commerce. It will include a chili cook-off at noon; fun and games, 3-6 p.m.; free pumpkins and decorating; concession stand, open at 4 p.m.; bonfire at 6 p.m.; ghost stories around the fire, 7 p.m.; free Movie Under the Stars, "Hocus Pocus, 8 p.m.

? The Vandalia Women of the Moose meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.
? The Fayette County Democratic Central Committee meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Democratic headquarters on West Orchard Street.

Tuesday, October 16

? The Vandalia Lions Club will have the Lions Hearing Bus at Walmart in Vandalia from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
? Peoples State Bank in Vandalia is holding a food drive at the Vandalia Community High School varsity football game. Admission to the game is non-perishable food items for the Nourishing Greatness food panty. A lis of suggested food items is elsewhere in today's issue.

Sunday, October 21

? Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Eighth and Fillmore streets in Vandalia, will hold its annual fish dinner, with serving from 11:30 a.m. until fish is gone. The menu includes deep-fried fish or hot dog, fried potatoes, baked beans, apple sauce, homemade desserts and drinks. Suggested donations are $8.50 for adults and
$5 for children ages 5-12; children under age 5 are free. Carry-outs will be available. Proceeds will go to missions, Nourishing Greatness, LLC recliner purchase and upkeep projects at the church. A country store will be held, with proceeds going to the church group.
