Seven Jr. Vandals qualified for the Illinois Elementary School Association Class AA state track meet, with six girls and one boy placing at last Saturday's sectional.
The meet will be held this Friday and Saturday at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria.
Eighth-grader Curtis Gordon qualified in two events, tying his school record of 12 feet in the pole vault to place first at the Pana Sectional, and finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles.
He is the defending state champion in the pole vault, winning last year’s seventh-grade state meet by clearing 10 feet.
Preliminaries races for hurdles will be on Friday, starting at about 1:15 p.m., and the pole vault will be on Saturday at 9 a.m.
For the girls, three seventh-graders and three eighth-graders will make the trip to the Eastside Centre in East Peoria on Friday and Saturday.
Eighth-grade Emma Meyer has the strongest showing for the girls, qualifying in three events.
She broke her own school record in the pole vault, (9 feet, 3 inches) to place first, and also won the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.
Last year, she placed ninth in the state in the pole vault.
Seventh-graders Katie Tarkington (100), Olivia Marquardt (discus) and Karsyn Garrison (high jump) each qualified at Saturday's sectional, and eighth-graders Anna Miller (100-meter hurdles) and Jensen Hollinshead (shot put) also qualified.

Marquardt additionally set a school record in the 1,600-meter run, with a time 5:46.04, which was 16 seconds faster than her personal record.
As a team, the eighth-grader girls placed third at the sectional.
