-A A +A

The organization of volunteer individuals who have worked since 2004 to rescue dogs and cats from abuse and neglect is inviting the public to view its new rescue shelter and boarding kennel this Saturday.

Second Chance Animal Rescue will hold a grand opening at its new facility from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The rescue shelter and boarding kennel is located about 1 1/2 south of U.S. Route 40 at Bluff City.

The grand opening is an opportunity to walk through the new facilities, and talk to Second Chance volunteers about the kennel and the services that the rescue program offers. Cookies and punch will be served, as will dog treats.

The new facilities include a small office, grooming room, isolation room with five runs, an adoption room with six runs and a room for puppies and kittens.

Second Chances new facility also includes four luxury suites for boarding purposes. The suites are decorated in themes NASCAR, Harley-Davidson, Illini and princess.

The boarding of pets helps to pay the organizations expenses related to running the shelter.

Second Chance is funded solely by private donations and fundraising events; it does not receive any local, state or federal funds.

As part of running the shelter, Second Chance provides the necessary veterinary care for rescued animals, including surgeries, spaying and neutering, and vaccinations.

The officers of the organization include: Lynn Brown, president; Michelle Turk, secretary; Meredith Stewart, treasurer; and Cindy Simmons, fundraising chairwoman.
