Brownstown Schools seeks Glee grant

The Brownstown School District's music department has applied for a grant from the Fox TV series Glee by submitting a video online, and it's now needing assistance from the public.
The grant funds being awarded will total $1 million, with individual grants of up to $50,000 being given.
Schools were to create short videos displaying their programs and needs, and the videos were submitted for online viewing for public voting. The 500 videos with the most votes as of Nov. 7 will advance to the final judging.
Music teachers Elizabeth Hastings (instrumental) and Kendra Houghtaling (vocal and general) prepared the district's video, with the assistance of Brownstown music students.
To view and vote for the Brownstown video, go online to www.gleegiveanote.com. Voting can be done daily, with one vote per IP address per day.

JPS seeking grant from Clorox

Teachers and parents give students the building blocks they need to learn and grow, but sometimes they can use a little outside help.
As school budgets nationwide continue to shrink, the Clorox Co.’s Power A Bright Future grant program steps in to help fund new or ongoing programs that allow children to play, create and explore.
After a competitive national nomination period, now it is time for community residents to add their support.
Through Dec. 9, adults and children 13 and older can visit www.PowerABrightFuture.com to vote once a day for the program they believe is most deserving of a grant.
New this year to the Power A Bright Future contest, neighbors, friends and family can now vote for their favorite school right from their phones via text messaging.
The program that receives the highest number of votes will be awarded the $50,000 grand-prize grant, and the next top vote-getters in the Play, Create and Explore categories, respectively, will each be awarded a $25,000 grant.
Clorox’s judging panel will select one additional school to win a $25,000 judge’s choice grant.
Jefferson Primary can be one of only five schools nationwide to win a grant, and local residents can help by voting for the school at www.PowerABrightFuture.com.
