Two weeks ago, Vandalia merchants officially kicked off the Christmas shopping season with the annual Olde Tyme Christmas celebration. It was a rousing success, with crowds of shoppers meandering through festively decorated stores in the downtown business district.
Since then, Vandalia merchants have been putting their best foot forward as they've welcomed holiday shoppers.
This weekend brings another landmark in the Christmas tradition in downtown Vandalia.
The annual Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Vandalia Rotary Club, kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday. The event features bands, floats, walking entries by local organizations and – of course – Santa.
It starts at the top of the Gallatin Street hill (near the Fayette County Courthouse) and proceeds east on Gallatin Street to Fourth Street. Santa, who will be riding in his sleigh, will proceed to the gazebo in Lincoln Park (across from the Vandalia Statehouse), where he will greet children and listen to their Christmas requests.
It's all designed to inject a little fun – and some shopping activity – into the holiday season. Don't miss the fun this Saturday at 10 a.m. Give Santa a proper welcome to our community and discover some great holiday bargains at the same time.
