Rural King employees create Memories Christmas Tree

Employees at Rural King in Vandalia wanted to do something different for their store’s Christmas decorations this year, something that their customers, co-workers and friends could share in.

So they came up with the idea of having a Memories Christmas Tree, on which they would post paper memorial ornaments bearing the name of loved ones, family, co-workers, friends or even beloved pets, which many have mourned sometime in their lifetime.
They prepared paper ornaments of different designs and colors, and passed them out to all who wished to share, employees and customers alike, and encouraged all to put the name(s) of their loved one(s) on the ornaments and place them on the Memories Christmas Tree.
Some of the memorials also hold a message and/or an expression of love and affection.
Jon Beck, the store manager, said they wanted to do something the customers could share in, and the number of memorial ornaments placed on the tree is growing.
As loved ones’ absence is felt especially intensely at this special time of the year, Beck felt the tree would help with expressing feelings in a positive way.
He stressed that customers, and the general public, are welcome to put the names of loved ones (people or pets), either on the ornaments provided or on just a plain piece of paper.
The tree, which will be left up until the New Year’s Day, is located to the right of the west entrance doors, on the office door. Individuals may ask for a paper ornament or bring in their own to place on the tree.
This is the season of giving, receiving, and sharing with others, a time of joy, but also for some, there are shadows in Christmas when loved have gone on … but also hope in the birth of Jesus,  the reason for the season.
