NEWTON – Patoka/South Central will be represented at the state track meet by one individual and one relay team.

Sophomore Chase Riley will be making his second straight appearance in the 200-meter dash, and he will be the anchor leg of the 4X200-meter relay team at Thursday’s Illinois High School Association state preliminaries.

The relay team placed first at last Friday’s Newton Sectional in 1:34.32, but that time ranks it 32nd among qualifiers.

Joining Riley at O’Brien Stadium on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston will be Tyler Back, Sean O’Leary and Kasey Nance.

The 4X200-meter relay preliminary flights are scheduled to begin at approximately 1 p.m.

Riley will then run the 200-meter dash later in the afternoon.

He finished second at the sectional in 23.17 seconds, and is seeded 22nd among qualifiers.

Last spring, he ran a 23.87 at state, finishing near the bottom of the standings, though he was seeded last, with a time of 24.05 seconds.

The 200-meter dash preliminaries are scheduled to begin at about 2:15 p.m.

Riley nearly qualified in the 100-meter dash, finishing a fraction of a second behind Robinson’s Garrett Blagrave at the sectional, and the 4X100-meter relay team also finished third.

O’Leary placed fifth in the 200-meter dash, and Back was sixth in the long jump.
