St. Elmo places third at Mattoon Invitational

The Lady Eagles posted a 3-2 record and defeated Heyworth in straight sets to place third at Saturday’s Mattoon Invitational.

Senior Perry Manley was named to the All-Tournament team after posting 75 assists, five kills and two service aces.

St. Elmo opened the tourney with a 17-25, 25-18, 10-15 loss to Heyworth, before defeating Warrensburg-Latham, 25-20, 25-21, and Taylorville, 20-25, 25-11, 15-3.

Sullivan narrowly knocked off the Lady Eagles (4-3) in the final game of pool play, 27-29, 25-23, 14-16.

On Tuesday, St. Elmo defeated Cowden-Herrick, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16.

Patoka stays perfect in conference play

The Warriors defeated Mulberry Grove, 14-4, on Tuesday to remain perfect in Egpytian-Illini Conference play.

Each Patoka batter reached base and scored at least once during the game, and the Warriors (7-1, 2-0 EIC) posted  an eight-run third inning.

Junior Johnnie Clift (3-0) earned the victory from the mound, striking out five in the complete-game effort.

Clift, Ryan Miller, Clinton Hood and Mark Rogers each had two RBI for the Warriors, while Mulberry Grove sophomore Derek Childress had three hits for the Aces (0-7, 0-3 EIC).

Windsor knocks off Lady Bombers in NTC match

Brownstown lost to Windsor in straight sets on Tuesday, 25-19, 25-13.

Bethany Oberlink and Chelsey Lange each had three kills, and Courtney Howard added two.

Howard also had a block, and Michaela Walk (three) and Shelby Rine (two) led in assists for the Lady Bombers (1-3, 0-2 NTC).

Bombers fall to Windsor

The Brownstown baseball team fell to Windsor on Tuesday, 3-2.

Senior Austin Hunter was 1-for-3, with a run in the game, and Calvin Boggs scored after being hit by a pitch. Both runs were scored in the first.

Windsor scored in the first and third innings to tie the game, and added another run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the narrow victory.

Jacob Behrends and Drake Hall also had hits for the Bombers.

St. Elmo loses Jr. NT softball game to Altamont

The game was cut short due to lightning, but it was going Altamont's way anyway, as the Jr. Lady Indians defeated St. Elmo, 23-10, in four innings of softball action last Friday.

Fatima Viramontes had three hits and two runs to lead St. Elmo. Morgan Brown added three RBI on two hits.

Lady Bombers beat Patoka to win first EIC game

Junior Bethany Oberlink led the way as the Lady Bombers earned their first Egyptian-Illini Conference win of the season last Thursday by winning at Patoka, 25-22, 25-19.

Oberlink led Brownstown (1-2, 1-0 EIC) with four kills, three aces and six digs. Michaela Walk added nine assists and two aces.

Cougars remain prefect in NTC with big win

South Central scored 14 times in the first two innings to stay undefeated in National Trail Conference play last Thursday, taking down Beecher City, 15-2.

Sophomore Noah Powless earned the victory from the mound, striking out six over five innings and allowing just three hits and one walk.

Austin Schwarm paced the offense, going 2-for-4, with a double and three RBI. Senior Dan Diss also added three RBI on two hits for South Central (7-1, 4-0 NTC).

Warriors continue hot start with win at Cisne

Patoka improved to 6-1 on the season and junior Clinton Hood pitched up his third win from the mound last Thursday during an 8-3 victory against Cisne.

Hood (3-0) tossed a complete game, striking out six. His only blemish came during the fifth, when two hits and a walk helped lead to Cisne’s runs.

Mark Rogers was 1-for-3, with two runs and two RBI, to pace Patoka’s offense, and Clinton Donaldson also drove in a pair of runs.

Ramsey can’t get by Sandoval

Junior Tylor Knisley had three hits and senior Tyler Pryor pitched a complete game, but Sandoval produced just enough offense last Thursday to win, 8-6.

Senior Colton Hunt added two hits and two RBI for the Rams.

Ryan Black had an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh, but that is all the farther the raally would get for Ramsey.

Lady Rams fall to Cowden-Herrick

Ramsey fell to Cowden-Herrick in an exciting Egpytian-Illini Conference match lat Thursday, losing 23-25, 25-23, 23-25.

Senior Shaunna Rainey led Ramsey (1-1, 0-1 EIC), with six kills, two blocks and four service aces. Ashley Blankenship had the most kills, with eight.

Jenna Hunt had 15 assists, and Breanna Seaton had six kills and Elizabeth Hortenstine had seven kills.

In the JV game, Cowden-Herrick won, 25-13, 25-17. Monica Stokes had four aces and one kill.

St. Elmo JH softball win high-scoring game

The St. Elmo Jr. High softball team scored plenty of runs to come out on the right end of a 24-14 victory against ALIS last Thursday.

Morgan Brown was 3-for-4, with four runs and four RBI for the Jr. Lady Eagles (5-9), and Elissa Baron and Sydney Moss also had three hits

Flowers earns first win as Eagles squeak by MG

St. Elmo freshman Noah Flowers earned his first career varsity win as the Eagles held off a late rally by Egyptian-Illini Conference rival Mulberry Grove last Wednesday in an 8-7 win.

Flowers (1-0) struck out six in 5 2/3 innings of work, allowing seven runs (two earned) on seven hits. He supported himself offensively, with a 2-for-3 effort, and senior Connor Beasley went 3-for-3 for the Eagles (3-2, 2-0 EIC)

Sophomore Alex Goodin smashed his first career home run for the Aces (0-5, 0-2 EIC), who lost their third straight game by one run. Derek Childress (0-3) took the loss, striking out five in five innings, and also went 3-for-4, with two doubles and an RBI at the plate.

Aces fall in season’s first EIC game

Mulberry Grove lost its season-opening Egyptian-Illini Conference game last Tuesday, falling to Beecher City, 9-8, when a late rally came up short.

The Aces scored a run in the top of the seventh after losing a 7-6 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning.

Jesse Sloan had three hits for the Aces (0-4, 0-1 EIC), and seniors Nate Ketchem and Kaiah Miller each had a single and a double in the game. Sloan (0-1) took the loss from the mound.

St. Elmo’s volleyball team couldn’t get by Christ Our Rock Lutheran in the Egyptian-Illini Conference opener last Tuesday, losing a tightly contested match, 25-15, 12-25, 27-29.

Senior Savannah Feezel led St. Elmo (0-1, 0-1 EIC) with nine kills and eight service aces, but that was dwarfed by CORL’s Amanda Geiger, who had 22 kills.
