Several Jr. High track athletes do well at state

Many local athletes did well at recent junior high state meets, with athletes from Brownstown, Patoka and South Central participating.

BROWNSTOWN
Eighth-grader Emily Bone had three top 10 finishes, and seventh-grader Alex Golden had a ninth-place finish to lead 16 qualifiers from Brownstown Junior High at the Illinois Elementary Association Class A state meet in Peoria this past weekend.

Bone placed sixth in the 400-meter dash (1:02.83), eighth in the 100-meter dash (0:13.88) and tied for 10th in the high jump (4 feet, 6 inches). She was also part of the 4X100-meter relay team that placed 34th.

Others in that relay team were: Morgan Brown, Tessa Philpot and Sydney Rosborough.

Golden cleared 5 feet in the high jump to take ninth, and he was also a member of the 4X100- and 4X400-meter relays.

He teamed with Colten Miller, Austin Chaney and Elijah Miller in both relays, placing 10th in the 4X4 and 19th in the 4X1.

Miller placed 23rd in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries, with a time of 18.95 seconds.

PATOKA
Patoka eighth-grader Taylor Issak finished in the top seven in three events at the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Class S state meet in Salem this past weekend.

Issak placed fifth in the 200-meter dash (0:28.75), sixth in the 100-meter dash (0:14.02) and seventh in the long jump (14 feet, 4 1/2 inches).

SOUTH CENTRAL
Three relays brought home top 10 finishes for South Central at the SIJHSAA Class S meet.

The seventh-grade 4X100-meter relay placed seventh (0:57.82), the eighth-grade 4X200-meter relay placed eighth (2:05.09) and the 4X400-meter relay placed 10th (4:56.41).

Also for South Central, Abby Hahn placed 15th in the 800-meter run (2:45.23).
