The Vandalia fifth- and sixth-grade student councils hosted a local competition in the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center’s Homers for Health home run derby.
All entrants hit whiffle balls off of a tee, and received up to four points, depending on how far their hit traveled.
The boys and girls winners in each grade division advance to the championship round in Forest Park on May 10, and will also get to meet St. Louis Cardinals players David Freese, Matt Holliday and Allen Craig.
All proceeds go to the hospital.
Vandalia’s winners were: K-2, Delaney Kopp and Easton Maroon; 3-5, Bailey Stewart and Mitchell Casey; 6-8, Bailey Maroon and Richie Well; 9-10, Alex Kleinik; and 11-12, Sierah Ruffner and Colton Woolsey.
Stewart also won a drawing for four Cardinals tickets.
