Eighth-grader Kolten Walker became the first state champion in the five-year history of Patoka’s Jr. high track program earlier this month.
Walker’s throw of 133 feet, 4½ inches easily earned him the title in the discus at the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association Class S state track meet in Salem.
The second-place finisher threw 119 feet, 6 inches.
Also medaling for Patoka at the meet were:
•Eighth-grader Baylie Devall, 100-meter hurdles, eighth (19.69)
