Pana beat Vandalia, 56-44, in the championship game of the Vandalia Holiday Tournament.

Robbie Hester of the fourth-seeded Panthers was named the tournament MVP. For the Vandals, seniors Michael Wells and Tim Ritchey were each named all-tournament.

The game was a rematch of the 2002 VHT title game, which was the last time Pana won the event. Had the third-seeded Vandals won on Saturday, it would have been their first tourney title since 1981.

Pana controlled the game from start to finish, never allowing the Vandals much of a chance at a comeback in their first title-game appearance since 2005.

Leyton Godoyo had 17 points and six steals to lead Vandalia. Wells had a team-high eight rebounds.

The game before saw No. 7 Altamont upset top-seeded Flora, 54-45, for third place.

No. 5 St. Elmo took fifth with an overtime 58-55 win against second-seeded Maroa-Forsyth.

In other action, No. 6 Shelbyville beat No. 10 South Central, 30-27, in the seventh-place game, and ninth-seeded St. Anthony clobbered No. 8 Greenville, 66-40, in the ninth-place contest.
