Local authorities are not yet releasing any details on an incident in Vandalia on Monday afternoon that left one juvenile hospitalized with a gunshot wound and a second juvenile in custody.
Fayette County State’s Attorney Joshua Morrison said on Wednesday morning that he could not give any details or comment on the incident, as he has not yet received all reports from law enforcement officers handling the incident.
Vandalia and Fayette County officers responded to a Vandalia residence late Monday afternoon for a report of a juvenile sustaining a gunshot wound.
That juvenile was taken to Fayette County Hospital, then transferred to a St. Louis hospital, where he underwent surgery, Morrison said.
The juvenile is expected to be released from care in the near future, Morrison said.
A local juvenile was taken into custody on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to Fayette County Jail records.
The juvenile was taken to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center pending any decisions in the case or possible formal charges.
