The Next Level: Graduated athlete roundup (Sept. 13)

Many athletes that spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

Logan Mahon • Pitcher • Gateway Grizzlies

•Sept. 10 – Mahon, a St. Elmo graduate, and the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent Frontier League were knocked out of the playoffs in a 7-0 loss. Mahon tossed an inning of relief.
•Sept. 9 – Mahon pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing one hit in a 7-5 playoff loss at Florence to even the series at two games each.
•Sept. 6 – Mahon pitched an inning of relief in a home playoff loss to Florence. In the 4-1 defeat, Mahon allowed a run on two hits and a walk. He struck out one batter.

Spencer Patton • Pitcher • Idaho Falls Chukars

•Sept. 6 – Patton, a South Central graduate, struck out four in two innings of work during the Idaho Falls season finale, a 15-3 loss to Orem. Patton allowed one run on two hits during the outing. For the season, he was 0-7, splitting the season as a starter and as a reliever. In 16 games (eight starts), Patton pitched 57 innings, allowing 40 earned runs on 67 hits and 21 walks. He struck out 84 batters, and had a 6.32 earned-run average.

Taylor Parrish • Sophomore • Franklin

•Sept. 8 – Parrish, a Vandalia grad, had a team-high 11 kills during a 25-18, 22-25, 23-25, 25-22, 4-15 loss to Oberlin (Ohio) during the Earlham Invitational in Richmond, Ind. She added two digs and a block during the match.
•Sept. 5 – Parrish had one kill and two digs during a 22-25, 26-28, 25-18, 25-22, 9-15 loss to Wilmington (Ohio). Franklin is 3-6 on the season.

Kinzie Neilson • Freshman • Lake Land

•Sept. 5 – Neilson, a South Central graduate, had one ace during a 19-25, 15-25, 25-17, 22-25 loss to Parkland.
