Many athletes who spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

Quenten Austin • Freshman • Carthage

•Austin, a Vandalia graduate, qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships and placed 15th in the decathlon. The championships were from May 23-25 on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. His individual event finishes at Nationals were:
•1,500-meter run, eighth, 4:39.45
•Javelin, ninth, 146-11
•Discus, 11th, 110-4
•Pole vault, 12th, 11-11 3/4
•High jump, 12th, 5-10
•Shot put, 13th, 36-7 1/2
•110-meter hurdles, 15th, :16.48
•400-meter dash, 16th, :52/95
•Long jump, 16th, 19-11
•100-meter dash, 17th, :11.73
•Overall: 15th, 6,104 points
