The Next Level: Graduated athlete roundup (Jan. 10)

Many athletes who spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

Jessica Earnest • Senior • Vanderbilt

•Earnest, a Vandalia graduate, and the No. 3 Vanderbilt University bowling team will travel to the Mid-Winter Classic at Arkansas State University this Friday-Sunday.

Laura Hobbie • Senior • Greenville

•Jan. 5 – Hobbie, a Vandalia graduate, started and played 27 minutes for Greenville in 73-47 loss at MacMurray. She scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and also grabbed three rebounds and had an assist. Greenville is 6-4 on the season.

Isaac Grapperhaus • Senior • Illinois College

•Jan. 5 – Grapperhaus, a South Central graduate, started and played 22 minutes for Illinois College in a 79-71 loss at Beloit College. He scored a team-high 15 points, and grabbed five rebounds. He added a block and a steal. The Blueboys are 6-6 (3-4 MWC) on the season.
•Jan. 3 – Grapperhaus started and scored three points in a 91-44 win at Principia College. He added five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
•Dec. 29 – Grapperhaus started and played 19 minutes for Illinois College in a 100-45 win against North Park University. He had six points, seven rebounds, one block and one steal.

Marty Johnson • Sophomore • Illinois College

•Jan. 5 – Johnson, a Vandalia graduate, played 13 minutes off of the bench for Illinois College in a 79-71 loss at Beloit College. He had one assist. The Blueboys are 6-6 (3-4 MWC) on the season.
•Jan. 3 – Johnson scored one point off of the bench in a 91-44 win at Principia College. He added two rebounds and an assist.
•Dec. 29 – Johnson played 13 minutes for Illinois College in a 100-45 win against North Park University. He had two points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
