The Next Level: Graduated athlete roundup (Aug. 23)

Many athletes that spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

Josie Earnest • Pro Bowler • Team USA

•Aug. 20 – Earnest, a Vandalia graduate, finished in seventh place in singles on the first day the PABCON Adult Bowling Championships in Henderson, Nev. Making her Team USA debut, Earnest averaged 218.83 over six games to place third among her teammates. The tournament continues through Saturday, and will be live-streamed at www.bowl.com.

Spencer Patton • Pitcher • Idaho Falls Chukars

•Aug. 19 – Patton, a South Central graduate, struck out six in three innings of relief during an 11-8 loss to Missoula. Patton allowed one earned run on two hits. On the season, he is 0-6, with a 6.32 earned-run average and 68 strikeouts for the Kansas City Royals' rookie-league affiliate.
•Aug. 15 – Patton struck out seven in 2 1/3 innings of relief during an 8-2 loss to Billings. The only blemish in Patton's outing was a walk.

Tanner Bushue • Pitcher • Greeneville Astros

•Aug. 18 – Bushue, a South Central graduate, struck out three in two innings of relief during a 2-0 win against Burlington. He allowed one hit during his outing. On the season, he is 0-3, with a 6.85 earned-run average and 27 strikeouts for the Houston Astros' rookie-league affiliate.
Aug. 15 – Bushue struck out one in  1 2/3 innings of relief 5-4 win against Bristol. He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks.

Logan Mahon • Pitcher • Gateway Grizzlies

•Aug. 18 – Mahon, a St. Elmo graduate, struck out one in two-thirds of an inning during an 8-7 loss at Evansville. He issued one walk during his out. On he season, Mahon is 2-1 in 28 games, with a 2.37 earned-run average and 22 strikeouts for the Gateway Grizzlies of the independent Frontier League.
•Aug. 17 – Mahon struck out one and walked one in an inning of relief during a 2-1 loss at Evansville.
•Aug. 16 – Mahon pitched an inning of relief during a 3-1 win against Wilmington.

Katie Crain • Sophomore • Kaskaskia

•Crain, a South Central graduate, and the Kaskaskia College volleyball team open their season at the Kankakee Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Brooke Maxey • Sophomore • Kaskaskia

•Maxey, A St. Elmo graduate, and the Kaskaskia College volleyball team open their season at the Kankakee Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
