Many athletes who spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

Spencer Patton • Pitcher • Wilmington Blue Rocks

•April 21 – Patton, a South Central graduate, earned the win and pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief in a 5-3 win at Winston-Salem. He struck out four, while allowing one hit and one walk. He is averaging 13.86 strikeouts per nine innings this season.
•April 17 – Patton picked up the win and pitched three innings of relief in a 5-3 win against Carolina. He struck out five, allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks.

Quenten Austin • Freshman • Carthage

•April 20 – Austin, a Vandalia graduate, placed second in the decathlon, with 6,073 points, at the Augustana Meet of Champions. He had first-place finishes in two of the 10 events and took third in three others.

•Javelin throw, first, 156-2
•110-meter hurdles, third, :16.26
•Discus, third, 120-10
•High jump, third, 5-10 3/4
•Pole vault, fourth, 12-9 1/2
•Shot put, sixth, 34-4 3/4
•400-meter dash, seventh, :54.77
•Long jump, 10th, 18-8
•100-meter dash, 13th, :11.94
Carthage placed fourth in the meet with 112 points.

Dathan Berning • Freshman • Greenville

•April 22 – Berning, a Vandalia graduate, went 1-for-2 during a 6-1 loss to Webster. On the season, Greenville is 8-19, and Berning is hitting .308.
•April 20 – Berning started at second base and went 1-for-3 in a 9-0 loss at Washington (Mo.) University.

Whitney Newsom • Soph. • Greenville

•April 20 – Newsom, a Vandalia graduate, had a hit in each game of a doubleheader against Eureka. In game one, a 5-1 loss, Newsom was 1-for-2. In the game two, a 6-3 loss, she was 1-for-4, with an RBI.

Abby Hill • Sophomore • Greenville

•April 19 – Hill, a St. Elmo graduate, placed second in the hammer throw at the Rose-Hulman Twilight Meet. Her throw went 136 feet, 6 inches. Greenville placed sixth with 46 points.

Cheyenne Rogier • Freshman • Lewis and Clark

•April 14 – Rogier, a Mulberry Grove graduate, played in both games of a doubleheader against Lincoln Land. In game one, a 9-1 loss, Rogier was 1-for-1, and in game two, a 21-13 loss, she was 1-for-4, with an RBI.
•April 13 – Rogier played in both games of a doubleheader at Spoon River College. In game one, a 10-3 win, Rogier went 3-for-4, with a run and an RBI, and in game two, a 7-6 win, she went 1-for-3, with a run and a walk.

Zach Heilig • Sophomore • Blackburn

•April 21 – Heilig, a Mulberry Grove graduate, went 1-for-1, with an RBI, as a pinch hitter during a 20-2 loss to Western Illinois.
•April 17 – Heilig went 1-for-1, with a run, as a pinch hitter in an 8-4 loss at Washington (Mo.) University.
