The Next Level: Graduate athlete roundup (Oct. 3)

Many athletes who spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

Jeff Lucken • Freshman • MacMurray • Football

•Sept. 28 – Lucken, a Vandalia graduate, returned from a concussion he suffered in the season-opener during a 41-14 loss to Iowa Wesleyan College. He recorded his first career college tackle during the game.

Sierah Ruffner • Freshman • Greenville • Volleyball

•Oct. 1 – Ruffner, a Vandalia graduate, had four kills and a block assist during a 3-0 loss to Washington (Mo). University.
•Sept. 28 – Ruffner had nine kills, two solo blocks and five block assists during a 3-0 win at Principia. The game featured her best career blocking effort. in GC's 12th straight win.
•Sept. 24 – Ruffner had five kills, one dig, one solo block and one block assist during a 3-0 win at Fontbonne.

Amanda Walton • Senior • Bethel • Volleyball

•Sept. 30 – Walton, a Vandalia graduate, had four kills during a 3-0 win against Williams Baptist.
•Sept. 27 – Walton had one kill during a 3-1 loss to Missouri Baptist College.
•Sept. 26 – Walton had two kills during a 3-0 win against Martin Methodist.
•Sept. 24 – Walton had two kills in each a 3-2 win against Freed-Hardeman and a 3-0 loss to Campbellsville University.

RaeChelle Leiken • Frosh. • Western Texas • Golf

•Sept. 30-Oct. 1 – Leiken, a Vandalia graduate, shot an 84 and a 78 on the first day of the Oral Roberts University Shootout. She finished the first day in a tie for 64th, and Western Texas was tied for 17th place, with a 645. On day two, Leiken shot an 85 to finish in a tie for 75th, with a  three-round total of 247. Western Texas placed 18th, with 968 strokes.
Sept. 24 – Leiken, a Vandalia graduate, finished in a tie for sixth as she helped her team win the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusader Fall Invitational. She shot a 79 and an 80 during the event, with the team winning by 10 strokes.

Paige Ehrat • Freshman • Millikin • Tennis

•Sept. 27 – Ehrat, a Vandalia graduate, fell, 0-6, 0-6, in No. 4 singles and fell, 1-8, in No. 3 doubles during a 9-0 loss at Wheaton College.
•Sept. 26 – Ehrat won, 8-6, in No. 4 singles, but lost, 2-6, 0-6, in No. 4 doubles during a 6-3 loss against Illinois College.

Blake Swofford • Freshman • Rend Lake • Golf

•Sept. 22-23 – Swofford, a Vandalia graduate, finished in a tie for 30th during the John A. Logan Invitational. He shot an 81 and an 87 for an event total of 168 (+26) to help Rend Lake place fourth, with 639 strokes.

Kinzie Neilson • Sophomore • Lincoln Land • Volleyball

•Sept. 25 – Neilson, a South Central graduate, had four kills, eight digs, two block assists and one ace during a 3-0 win against  Lewis and Clark.

Perry Manley • Freshman • Kaskaskia • Volleyball

•Sept. 26 – Manley, a St. Elmo graduate, had four kills, two assists and two block assists during a 3-0 loss at Vincennes University.
•Sept. 24 – Manley had 10 digs, seven assists, two kills, two aces and a block assist during a 3-0 win against the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

Savannah Feezel • Frosh. • Kaskaskia • Volleyball

•Sept. 26 – Feezel, a St. Elmo graduate, had three kills and a dig during a 3-0 loss at Vincennes University.
•Sept. 24 – Feezel had six digs and two kills during a 3-0 win against the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
