The Next Level: Graduate athlete roundup (Feb. 6)

Many athletes who spent their high school years in Fayette County have moved on to play for college or professional teams. Below are the athletes who recently made headlines.

Sierah Ruffner • Freshman • Greenville • Track

•Feb. 1 – Ruffner, a Vandalia graduate, placed third in the high jump at the Illinois Wesleyan Titan Open. She cleared 5 feet, 1 inch. GC placed second of 10 teams.

Quenten Austin • Sophomore • Carthage •Track

•Jan. 31 – Austin, a Vandalia graduate, participated in three events at the Carthage College Tadd Metzger Invitational. He placed third in high jump by clearing 5 feet, 10 3/4 inches; sixth in the 55-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.29 seconds; and seventh in the pole vault by clearing 12 feet, 1 3/4 inches. Carthage finished first of nine teams.

Marty Johnson • Junior • Illinois College • Basketball

•Feb. 1 – Johnson, a Vandaila graduate, played 15 minutes off of the bench in a 61-50 loss at Carroll University. He had two points, one rebound and one steal in the game.
