Genealogy group plans annual meeting

The Fayette County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. next Tuesday at Evans Public Library in Vandalia. Those planning to attend are asked to take family stories for show and tell.
The group's annual meeting will be held on Nov. 2 at Good Old Days Banquet Hall in Brownstown. The cost is $15, and reservations are due by Oct. 15.

The speaker at the annual meeting will be Bruce Cline, "Ghost Writer."

VFW Post accepting clothes for veterans

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9770 in Brownstown is conducting a drive for new clothes for veterans.
Items that are needed include socks, underwear, T-shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants and undershirts of all sizes. All clothing donated must be new.
Drop boxes have been set up at the VFW Home in Brownstown and Fayette County Real Estate, 740 W. Orchard St., Vandalia.
Monetary donations are also being accepted. Cash donations should be mailed to: Brownstown VFW, P.O. Box 27, Brownstown, Ill. 62418.

Girl Scout cookie sales begin this Sunday and continue through Saturday, Oct. 16.
