New fire number
The old emergency fire line number — 283-2121 — is not functioning and will be disconnected. Anyone wishing to report a fire should call 911 or 283-2131. Businesses and residents with remote alarm services should advise their alarm companies of this information.

TIF meeting
The TIF Joint Review Board will hold its annual meeting at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, at Vandalia City Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to review the 2010 TIF Audit Report. The report must be reviewed and approved before its submission to the State of Illinois.

Earhart focus of play
A one-woman play depicting the life of American aviator Amelia Earhart will be presented at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7, in Wesley Hall of First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.
The second in a series of three programs presented by the Fayette County Museum, the production is called “The Life of Amelia Earhart, American Aviator (1897-1937.” It will be performed by Barbara Kay of Glen Carbon.
Single tickets for the event are $15. For more information, call the museum at 283-4866.
