Veterans Day program is next Thursday

 

Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 of Vandalia will hold a Veterans Day program at 1:30 p.m. next Thursday at the Legion Home, 321 S. Seventh St.

The program will include patriotic messages and music.

The public is invited to attend, and refreshments will be served after the program.

 

One-woman play is Sunday

 

A one-woman play depicting the life of American aviator Amelia Earhart will be presented at 2 p.m. this Sunday in Wesley Hall of First United Methodist Church in Vandalia.

The second in a series of three programs presented by the Fayette County Museum, the production is called “The Life of Amelia Earhart, American Aviator (1897-1937).” It will be performed by Barbara Kay of Glen Carbon.

Single tickets for the event are $15. For more information, call the museum at 283-4866.

Feral swine help requested

 

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources requests that as the public ventures outdoors this fall and winter to enjoy nature, they keep an eye open for feral swine.

Feral swine are an invasive species that destroys habitat, damages crop and hay fields, and has a negative impact on many wildlife species. Signs of damage include rootings, wallowing, large tree rubs, and damaged crop fields.

The public is asked to report signs and/or sightings of feral swine to the local Illinois Department of Natural Resources office at: 129 N. Kennedy Blvd., Vandalia; the phone number is 283-3070.

 

Holiday basket forms taken

 

The Fayette County Caring & Sharing committee is now accepting applications from families wishing to receive a Christmas basket.

Application forms are available at:

Vandalia – Harmon's Market, Illinois Department of Human Services office, CEFS Economic Opportunity Corp. office and Fayette County Health Department.

Ramsey – First National Bank, Miller's Market and Ramsey Grade School.

Brownstown – Brownstown Elementary School, Brownstown Food Grocery and Victory Lane.

St. Elmo – St. Elmo City Hall and St. Elmo Foods.

Farina – C& K Grocery, St. Peter Market and Lootoogootee Post Office.
