Church goes green; urges other to do so

The First Christian Church in Vandalia has gone "green" by participating in the recycling program offered by FAYCO Enterprises. The congregation of the church is also encouraging the congregations of other area churches to recycle, both at their churches and their homes.
At its facility at 1313 Sunset Drive in Vandalia, FAYCO is accepting newspapers, newspaper inserts and phone books; magazines, catalogs and books; office paper; stretch wrap; #1 and #2 plastic; cardboard; and aluminum cans.
The hours for the recycling program are: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m.-noon.
The Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District has also resumed its electronic recycling program. Electronic items may be taken to the SWCD office at 301 S. Third St. in Vandalia between 1 and 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Glass is no longer accepted as part of that recycling effort.
