Tools for School distribution Aug. 10-13

Tools for School, a program that provides free school supplies to Fayette County in-need students, pre-kindergarten through junior college, will be in operation at First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia on the following dates:
• Wednesday, Aug. 10 – 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
• Thursday, Aug. 11 – 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
• Friday, Aug. 12 – 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
• Saturday, Aug. 13 – 9 a.m.-noon.
The church is located at 1221 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia, and those picking up supplies are to enter through the north door. The facility is handicapped-accessible.
All students must accompany their parents or other adults to select their supplies.

Heritage Days at Farm Museum

The American Farm Heritage Museum in Greenville is holding its annual Heritage Days July 29-31.
This year's featured tractors are Massey, Massey Harris, Massey Ferguson and Cletrac.
The event features entertainment all three days, including:
• Friday – Puppet shows from 1-4 p.m. and Fourgiven Quartet from 4-7 p.m.
• Saturday – "Southern Star" country music from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., "Chris Tally Trio" bluegrass music from 1-4 p.m. and "Salt Creek" bluegrass music from 4-7 p.m.
• Sunday – Church service from 8-9 a.m., "Shakey Dave" classic country music from 9-11 a.m. and "Variety Men" classic dance music from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

State police June enforcement activity

Illinois State Police District 12 Commander Lt. Cory Ristvedt this week announced the activity and enforcement figures for District 12, which includes Fayette County.
Troopers responded to 277 calls for service and initiated 1,874 incidents in the field.
Enforcement figures include 793 citations and 655 written warnings, including 362 speeding citations, 11 DUIs, 120 seat belt citations, four child restraint citations, 205 written warnings for speeding and 39 criminal arrests.
Troopers assisted 240 motorists, conducted 634 motor carrier inspections and investigated 99 traffic crashes, including four fatal crashes.

Meeting on lower Kaskaskia watershed

A presentation on a water quality assessment of the lower Kaskaskia River watershed will be given during a meeting at noon on July 27 at St. Pancratius Church Hall in Fayetteville.
The meeting is hosted by the Lower Kaskaskia Stakeholders Inc., a nonprofit organization that works for future protection, use and preservation of the Lower Kaskaskia River Basin.
Lunch, at a cost of $8, will be served at 11:30 a.m.
